The chous served to take wine from a krater and poured into a drinking cup. It was also the shape associated with the Dionysiac festival called the Anthesteria in which the new wine was celebrated. Children were a major part of the festivities, and a large number of choes depict them. While this vase need not be directly connected with the festival, the combination of shape and subject certainly evokes it.
